Our trucks put safety first. That's why the Active Brake Assist 5^{287, 285, 3021} comes as part of the standard equipment. It assists drivers²⁸⁷ in certain situations by initiating a full application of the brakes if stationary and moving objects are detected. It can also initiate a partial or full application of the brakes in response to moving pedestrians being detected – thus reducing the consequences of an accident or completely preventing one from happening in the first place.

The Active Sideguard Assist^{287, 1, 248} can assist the driver when turning or changing lanes by detecting moving and stationary objects in the warning zone on the right or in the tracking pattern in certain situations^{201, 211} and providing visual and audible warnings for the driver.

The system can also contribute to a reduction in the severity of accidents within the system limits by means of automated braking to standstill. In ideal situations, it can even prevent accidents altogether.

Active Drive Assist 2^{287, 248, 284} is available for certain Actros models and assists the driver, not only in maintaining as safe a distance as possible to the vehicle travelling in front, but also in staying in the middle of the lane, particularly on long, monotonous stretches of road. It therefore offers greater safety as well as stress-relieving comfort.

If the driver takes both hands off the steering wheel for a long time and does not react to the visual and acoustic warning cascade triggered as a result, the Emergency Stop function of Active Drive Assist 2^{287, 248, 284} can initiate automated braking, taking the vehicle to a standstill within the system limits, and inform the following traffic of a dangerous situation by activating the hazard warning lights.

Active Drive Assist 2^{287, 248, 284} is an extension of the Proximity Control Assist ^{287, 98} functions. To do this, it combines the enhanced radar and camera technologies of Active Brake Assist 5^{287, 285, 3021} with the electrically assisted steering and Lane Keeping Assist^{287, 3020}.

The system can increase road safety by pre-emptively braking the vehicle and trailer/semitrailer in a range of possible driving situations, thereby stabilising the vehicle combination.

This optional headlamp system contributes to enhanced safety through improved illumination of the carriageway. Besides the LED daytime running lights, it also includes automatic switching between main beam and dipped beam, as well as an automatic cornering light¹ and front fog lamps¹.

The daytime running lights, standing lights, dipped and high beam as well as the indicator are LED. This means especially high light emission with low energy consumption.

It is automatically activated when the engine is turned off – but can also be turned on and off by operating the lever in the cockpit. To ensure an even greater level of safety, the electronic parking brake is also automatically activated in the event of the door being opened when the engine is running and the speed is 0 km/h.

This optional ex factory pre-installation enables the swift and simple installation of up to four analogue cameras. This can increase safety, for example when manoeuvring.

The new, optionally available LED tail lamps¹ make a decisive statement, notably thanks to the turn signal function which moves from the inside of the vehicle towards the outside to clearly signal the intended direction.

In place of the conventional rearview mirrors, the Actros L is fitted with an enhanced, aerodynamically sophisticated MirrorCam^{287, 271}. The camera arms are now shortened, which also reduces the overall vehicle width. The system can make fuel savings of up to 1.3% compared with conventional mirrors and offer improved visibility to the rear – especially in critical lighting conditions – and in the the A-pillar area. The new spoiler lip and water-repellent coating of the lens reduce droplet formation.

MirrorCam^{287, 271} also provides added safety during manoeuvring, turning off and changing lanes, for example by panning the camera image in accordance with the vehicle's movements. Guide and distance lines also make manoeuvring easier. A classic mirror system is also available as an alternative to the MirrorCam^{287, 271}.

In suitable conditions, the new assistance system recognises certain traffic signs in real time and displays the two most important signs in the instrument cluster which can help enhance safety and driving comfort.
